"True" Competency-Based Certifications
Currently, we offer 15 certifications in five areas:
(1) Enterprise Database Design and Development
(2) Web Applications Design and Development
(3) Systems Development Project Management
(4) Business Project Management
(5) Management Consulting
The Enterprise Database Design and Development Certifications are for the professionals that gathers the requirements, and designs, models, and develops an enterprise database.
The Web Application Design and Development Certifications are for the professionals that gathers the requirements, designs, and develops an enterprise web application.
The Systems Development Project Management Certifications are for the professionals that will plan and manage a systems development project for the full system development lifecycle. These systems include desktop applications, web applications, mobile applications, server applications, and other systems.
The Business Project Management Certifications are for the professionals that effectively and efficiently plan, schedule, start, manage, and close a business project within an organization. Business projects are non-IT projects for organizations such as creating new businesses or business units, business expansions, business mergers, and launching new business initiatives.
The Management Consulting Certifications are for the professionals that use a variety of management consulting tools and techniques to solve organizational problems, increase productivity, and design and improve work processes. These tools and techniques include data collection and analysis tools, work measurement techniques, work analysis tools, work process mapping, problem analysis tools, and decision making techniques.
Unlike other project management certification organizations that take a "one size fits all" approach to certifications in project management, we believe that is not the best approach. One size does not fit all! Although managing projects may be somewhat similar in approach, each of them requires a specialized knowledge, direction, and path. Project Managers do not normally jump around to different areas and industries, such as moving from managing software projects to building construction projects. They usually stay within the area they are experienced in. For these reasons, PSI will be developing specialized competency-based project management certifications.
